"2 Hours Post Prandial" refers to a blood glucose test that is conducted exactly two hours after eating a meal, usually a standard one. It is used primarily to assess how the body handles glucose and to detect abnormalities in blood sugar regulation.

Purpose:

To evaluate blood glucose control in individuals with diabetes.

To help diagnose diabetes or prediabetes.

To monitor the effectiveness of treatment in diabetic patients.

Normal Ranges (may vary slightly by lab):

Below 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L): Normal

140–199 mg/dL (7.8–11.0 mmol/L): Prediabetes (Impaired Glucose Tolerance)

200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) or higher: Indicative of Diabetes Mellitus

Test Procedure:

Patient consumes a regular meal.

Blood sample is taken exactly 2 hours after the first bite of the meal.

Blood glucose level is measured from the sample.

Clinical Relevance:

The test reflects the body’s ability to manage post-meal glucose spikes.

Especially useful in identifying Type 2 Diabetes and gestational diabetes.

It complements other tests like Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) and HbA1c.
