Anaerobic Culture

Package the submitted specimen or material in a clean, compatible and securely sealed primary container that preserves its original condition and prevents leakage, contamination or physical damage. Place it in appropriate secondary packaging, use absorbent material for liquids, and clearly label the sample identity, source, batch/location and collection date. Maintain any required cold chain or hazard controls and provide enough material for the requested analysis and reasonable repeat testing. For Anaerobic Culture, use packaging and preservation compatible with Anaerobic culture + AST; if the receiving laboratory supplies a dedicated collection kit, bottle or transport medium, that kit takes precedence over general packaging guidance.

For Anaerobic Culture, provide the clinical reason for testing, relevant symptoms, current medicines and any previous related results where available. Follow any fasting, timing or collection preparation specified by the clinician or laboratory. Do not stop prescribed treatment solely for the test. The laboratory result should be interpreted together with the patient's clinical history and other appropriate investigations.
