About Estradiol (E2) Blood Test – Serum Estrogen Level
The Estradiol (E2) Blood Test measures the level of estradiol, the primary and most biologically active form of estrogen, in the blood. Estradiol plays an important role in reproductive health, menstrual cycle regulation, ovarian function, fertility, pregnancy, bone health and sexual development.
The test may be requested as part of a fertility or reproductive hormone assessment, to evaluate ovarian function, investigate irregular or absent menstrual periods, assess menopausal status, monitor ovulation or fertility treatment, and investigate conditions associated with abnormal estrogen levels. It may also be used in males when evaluating hormonal imbalance, gynecomastia, testicular function or other endocrine conditions.
Estradiol results should be interpreted according to the patient's age, sex, menstrual-cycle phase, pregnancy status, medications and clinical history, because normal E2 concentrations vary considerably between individuals and physiological stages.

How to package the sample
Collect venous blood into an appropriate serum collection tube (plain/red-top or serum separator tube. Allow the specimen to clot and separate the serum by centrifugation where required.
Transfer separated serum into a clean, properly labelled, leak-proof specimen container if the primary collection tube will not be submitted. Clearly label the specimen with the required patient/sample identifiers and collection date and time.
For transport, place the tube in a sealed biohazard specimen bag with absorbent material and protect it against leakage, contamination, excessive heat and direct sunlight. Follow standard laboratory's specified temperature and transport requirements or request us to pick up.
