Description

Grandparent DNA Testing is a specialised genetic relationship test used to determine whether an individual is the biological grandparent of a child. This test is commonly performed when the alleged parent is unavailable for testing, deceased, unwilling to participate, or cannot be located. By comparing the DNA profiles of the child and one or both alleged grandparents, the laboratory can assess the likelihood of a biological grandparent-grandchild relationship with a high degree of confidence.

Every individual inherits approximately 50% of their DNA from each biological parent and, in turn, approximately 25% from each biological grandparent. Using advanced DNA profiling technology, our accredited laboratories analyse multiple genetic markers to determine whether the tested individuals share the expected genetic relationship.

Whenever possible, testing both paternal or both maternal grandparents together provides greater statistical power and increases the accuracy of the results. However, testing may also be performed using a single grandparent where necessary. Additional family members, such as the child's biological parent, aunt, uncle, or sibling, may also be included to strengthen the analysis when appropriate.

Grandparent DNA Testing is frequently requested for inheritance claims, immigration applications, family reunification, adoption matters, child custody cases, legal proceedings, genealogical research, and personal peace of mind.

At AllAnalysis, testing is carried out by experienced molecular genetics laboratories using internationally accepted DNA analysis methods, ensuring reliable, confidential, and scientifically valid results.

Other Instructions

Please review the following information before booking your Grandparent DNA Test:

Appointment Recommended: Advance booking helps minimise waiting time and ensures prompt laboratory processing.

Legal or Private Testing: Inform us whether you require a Private (Peace of Mind) or Legal Grandparent DNA Test, as legal testing requires documented identity verification and chain-of-custody procedures.

Bring Valid Identification: Government-issued identification may be required for adult participants. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Prepare for Sample Collection: Do not eat, drink, smoke, chew gum, or brush your teeth for at least 30 minutes before providing a DNA sample.

Best Accuracy: Whenever possible, testing both grandparents from the same side of the family (maternal or paternal) is recommended because it significantly improves the statistical confidence of the results.

Additional Family Members: In some cases, including the child's biological parent or another close relative may strengthen the analysis and improve interpretation.

Sample Quality: Poor-quality or contaminated samples may require recollection and could delay result delivery.

Turnaround Time: Standard laboratory processing is generally completed within 5–10 working days after receipt of all required samples.

Nationwide & International Collection: Where available, AllAnalysis can coordinate confidential sample collection from participants in different cities or countries.

Complete Privacy: Every sample receives a unique laboratory identification number, and all information is stored securely and treated with the highest level of confidentiality.

Need Assistance? Our genetics support team is available to explain the testing process, recommend the most appropriate family relationship test, and arrange sample collection at your home, office, or preferred location.
