In hematology testing, we study the blood and blood-forming tissues in your sample to assess the condition and function of blood cells. The test examines important components such as red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, haemoglobin and clotting factors. It can help detect or monitor conditions such as anaemia, infections, blood-clotting disorders, immune-related conditions and blood cancers. Depending on the investigation requested, hematology testing may include a Complete Blood Count or Full Blood Count, blood film examination, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, coagulation profile or haemoglobin electrophoresis.

Packaging Instructions

To ensure accurate and reliable test results, please follow these sample collection and packaging guidelines:

Blood samples should be collected by a qualified healthcare professional using the appropriate blood collection tube for the requested hematology test.
Ensure the blood collection tube is filled to the recommended level to maintain the correct blood-to-anticoagulant ratio.
Immediately after collection, gently invert the tube 8–10 times to mix the blood with the anticoagulant. Do not shake the tube vigorously.
Clearly label the sample with the patient's full name, date of birth or identification number, date and time of collection, and the type of specimen collected.
Place the sample in a leak-proof specimen bag together with a completed laboratory request form.
Transport the specimen to the laboratory as soon as possible. Keep the sample at the recommended storage temperature and avoid excessive heat or direct sunlight during transportation.

Most hematology tests do not require fasting unless your healthcare provider specifically advises otherwise.
Inform your healthcare provider or the laboratory if you are taking medications such as blood thinners, iron supplements, chemotherapy drugs, or any medication that may affect your blood test results.
Stay well hydrated before your blood sample is collected unless instructed otherwise.
If you have a history of excessive bleeding, fainting during blood collection, or any bleeding disorder, please inform the healthcare professional before your sample is taken.
Certain specialized hematology tests require prompt processing. For this reason, samples should be delivered to the laboratory as quickly as possible after collection.
Turnaround time depends on the specific test requested. Routine hematology tests are usually available within 24 hours, while specialized investigations may take longer.
