About Twin DNA Testing

Twin DNA Testing, also known as Twin Zygosity Testing, is a specialised genetic test used to determine whether twins are identical (monozygotic) or fraternal (dizygotic). While some twins may appear remarkably alike, physical resemblance alone cannot accurately determine whether they originated from the same fertilised egg. Twin DNA Testing provides a precise scientific answer by analysing multiple genetic markers across the twins' DNA.

Identical twins develop from a single fertilised egg that splits into two embryos, meaning they share virtually all of their genetic material. Fraternal twins develop from two separate eggs fertilised by two different sperm cells and are genetically similar in the same way as ordinary brothers or sisters, sharing approximately 50% of their DNA.

This test is valuable for parents, researchers, healthcare providers, and twins who wish to better understand their genetic relationship. Knowing whether twins are identical or fraternal may also provide useful information for certain medical evaluations, genetic counselling, family studies, and scientific research.

At AllAnalysis, Twin DNA Testing is performed by accredited molecular genetics laboratories using advanced DNA profiling techniques to deliver highly accurate, confidential, and reliable results.
